Like your pics very much, you have taken all of them by the 50mm lens, do u think its good for portrait shooting? Im canon 6D user and got a 50mm 1.4, just want to use the combo for portrait shooting instead of buying the new 85mm as many people said the portrait legend.

Thank you very much for your comments. I am a Nikon user so my lens is Nikon. Not sure about Canon. 50mm is only good for portraits if you are taking half body to full body. Close up you need to stop down the aperture to f/2.8 or maybe f/4 to have most of the face in focus. Maybe some time for special artistic effect you can use f/2 or f/1.8 or f/1.4 or f/1.2. But you have to take note that it is very very difficult to use big apertures on a 50mm in close up photography.

The 85mm will be a better choice because of the minimal perspective distortion and the working distance on a full frame body. On a crop sensor body the working x1.5 for Nikon and x1.6 for Canon in order to get the same composition as on a full frame. If you love creamy bokeh then the 85mm will be slightly better than the 50mm because of the focal length. Always remember that bokeh depends on

    1. Focal length of lens
    2. Aperture of lens
    3. Working distance between subject and sensor
