Em cám ơn các bác đã cho e lời khuyên về mua ống 35 mmf1.8 hay 50mmf1.4. Em cũng đã hỏi bạn e thì bạn em có khuyên thế này. em post ra đây để các bác xem. hy vọng cũng giúp bác nào đang có ý định mua lens giống em.

You are using a Nikon D90 which has a DX sensor and a crop factor of 1.5x.
In the old film days 50mm was a standard lens and would still be the same on a Full Frame or FX camera (D700, D3 etc.).
If you fit a 50mm on your D90 it will have an effective length of 75mm because of the 1.5x crop factor.
If you fit a 35mm lens it will be nearer to 50mm with an effective length of 52.5mm.

If you are buying a new lens it is worth taking into consideration of buying a FX lens rather than DX. If you upgrade to a full frome FX body in the future then the FX lens will still be ok to use. You will not be able to use a DX lens on and FX body.

As for lens size, you will need to think about how close you are going to get to your subject. Also are you mainly going to be taking head and shoulders or full length body shots.

I have been looking at my studio portraits and lens lengths have varied between 24mm to 105mm but most are round the 50mm to 70mm size. Of course this is on my D700 FX body so you need to translate these sizes down to match your FX body. i.e. 50mm on FX = 35mm on DX.

Remember that most of my portrait shots are taken in a studio enviroment and space is limited. If you are working outside then a longer lens my suit your needs better so then I would say 50mm.

I think that a 35mm may be of better overall use on your camera and would also be good for landscapes but 50mm is probably a nicer lens and may be my choice. I would suggest that you take your camera down to your local camera store and ask to try both lenses on your body. Take some shots with both lenses and then go home and look at the results. Also remember that the wider the lens the more background will be included in your portrait shots.

Try taking a potrait shot with your 18-200mm lens set at 50mm then set it to 35mm and move closer to get the same framing of your subject and you will see that there will be slightly more in the background.

A lot of portrait photographers use long lenses as this also helps to throw the background out of focus which makes your subject stand out.
    =====================
Your camera is a DX sensor so a DX lens will work fine and so will a FX lens. The reason I mentioned about thinking of a FX lens was just for future proofing. I went through a stage of buying DX lenses but then I bought my D700 and found that I could not use my DX lenses properly on it so then had to buy FX lenses. If I had bought FX lenses straight away then it is no problem whichever body I use.
It will also be a matter of finances too because the FX lenses are usually more expensive.
They always say to invest in good lenses because your camera may change many times but your lenses should last many years. Also your camera is only as good as your lens.
A cheap camera with an expensive lens will probably give better results than an expensive camera with a cheap lens.
