The media accreditation process for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ will be launched on 5 December 2009, the day after the Final Draw. Media accreditation will close on 31 January 2010.
As in previous World Cup finals, the national associations will be allotted a certain number of press and photographer accreditations to be distributed to their national media. This quota is based on past experience from previous tournaments and whether the association concerned has qualified for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ finals.
FIFA will be using the Internet to manage the media accreditation process for the FIFA World Cup™ by way of the FIFA Media Channel.
In order for media representatives to be able to submit the online accreditation form, they will be required to have two important items; First, an approved individual FIFA Media Channel account and second, a unique accreditation Control Number issued by the national association. Access to the online media accreditation form will only be possible with a Control Number.
Written press, photographers and Internet editors that work for newspapers, magazines and other printed publications, must apply for accreditation to their respective national associations via their publication. South African media must request accreditation to the South African local organising committee (LOC) via their email at media-accreditation@2010oc.com).
On-line editions of a newspaper or magazine must be accredited directly with quotas allocated to the publication. It is the responsibility of the publication to decide on the ratio of press reporters to Internet editors.
Correspondents for foreign newspapers in South Africa must submit their request for accreditation to their respective national associations via the head editorial office in their home country.
For example, the newspaper Bild of Germany must apply for accreditation to the German football association. The foreign correspondent for Australia's The Sydney Morning Herald in South Africa must submit a request for an application to Football Federation Australia via the newspaper's editorial headquarters in Sydney.
National news and photo agencies must also apply for media accreditation to their respective national football associations.
Freelance Media
Freelance media must submit their applications, using the same procedure as written press, to their respective national association. South African freelance media must submit their request for accreditation to the LOC at media-accreditation@2010oc.com. The FIFA Media Accreditation Office will be directly responsible for international freelance journalists and photographers that are living and working in a foreign country.
For example, a Japanese freelance photographer that is living in Japan must apply for accreditation to the Japan Football Association. A Japanese freelance photographer that is working in Spain should register their interest directly to FIFA by e-mail only to FWC2010media-accreditation@fifa.org.
Radio and Television Non-Rights Holders
Non-rights holders (NRH) are radio and television companies without broadcasting rights for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™. Non-rights holders are requested to contact FIFA by e-mail only to FWC2010media-accreditation@fifa.org. The number of accreditations available for this category will be very limited and will most likely be issued in March or April 2010.
Important note to media: Registration and approval to access the FIFA Media Channel does not signify that one has been granted accreditation. The accreditation Control Number that each media representative will require to access the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ accreditation form is not the same as the individual User ID and Password to access the FIFA Media Channel.
